Liahona
Waray
International magazine published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
More information
As Church membership grew internationally, missions in Europe, South America, Asia, and the Pacific began publishing periodicals in local languages. Some of these periodicals lasted only a few months, but others remained strong for decades.
Between 1967 and 1970, the Church consolidated existing non-English mission periodicals into a unified international magazine. The periodicals had different titles, but by 2000, all of them had been renamed to Liahona. Unifying international magazines allowed Church leaders to efficiently communicate with members throughout the world, and opened the door for additional languages to be published that never had mission periodicals.
During this period, there was also a consolidation of English-language periodicals. In 1971, three English magazines were introduced: The Ensign (for adults), the New Era (for youth), and the Friend (for children).
In 2021, the international Liahona and English-language magazines were further unified, being replaced by three global magazines: The Liahona (for adults), For the Strength of Youth (for youth), and the Friend (for children). Magazines from 2021 onward are available in Gospel Library and are not currently indexed at Archive Viewer.
